Congrats to Monique on Winning a Golden Globe

Her Acceptance Speech:
"First let me say, thank you, God, for this amazing ride that you’re allowing me to go on.
Everybody kept asking me do I know my speech, and I said, ‘No, I don’t know what I’m going to say because I don’t want people to think I just know I done won something,’ so no, I don’t know! But I am shaking when I tell you all I am in the midst of my dream and when I look into the eyes of the man I stood next to at 14 years old and I said to him, ‘One day we’re going to be stars, and he said, ‘You first. And we walked this red carpet together tonight. Sidney, I will love you more than you will ever know, baby.

Lee Daniels, the world gets a chance to see how brilliant you are. You are a brilliant, fearless, amazing director who would not waver, and thank you for trusting me to be Mary Jones in this movie. To Gabby, sister, I am in awe of you. Thank you for letting me play with you.

To the cast and the crew of this movie, thank you all so much. I celebrate this award with all the Preciouses, with all the Marys — I celebrate this award with every person that’s ever been touched. It’s now time to tell. And it’s okay."

This is a huge accomplishment for her, it seems like things are lining up in her life. Her talk show is doing very well, her and hubby seem to be doing well. Go Mo!

The A-Team Movie Trailer

When I was a kid I loved the theme music to The A-Team, I'm hoping that the movie does the original justice. The trailer is okay, I will probally go to see because I am an oldschool  A-Team fan. The new A-Team feature Liam Neeson as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, Bradley Cooper as the playboy mercenary role of Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck, Sharlto Copley as Capt. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock, and UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as B.A. Baracus.

From Boys to Men and Vice Versa

Me and my son Gavin

As a mother of a toddler boy going through the terrible 2 stage, I often get frustrated with his behavior, and don’t always know the right thing to do. What I am sure of at this stage is I want him to have a bright future, with many possibilities to become whatever he choose. What I don’t envision is any outlandish problems with his behavior in school, with the law or with us at home. I know what you’re thinking, boys will be boys, but that’s not an excuse I’m accepting. So although I don’t have it quite figured out right now while my son is 2 me and his dad are working on it together and are going to have it figured before it counts.

When I came across the clips for this Documentary “MenIIBoys,” I immediately took notice because I am raising a boy, and after watching the clips I can identify with some of the attitudes reflected in the film. Rather from family members, a friend, or news stories we all know young men like the ones interviewed. Personally what I think we need to do as a community is uplift them, and let them know they have more options other than entertainment and sports. If you don’t have a positive male figure in their life, link them up with a mentor through a local organization in your community. Or encourage dialog between him and his friends at various stages in their life. Kids will open up if you respectfully give them an opportunity to share there thoughts as they did in this film.

In the award winning documentary “MenIIBoys," producers Janks Morton and LaMarr Darnell Shields opens a new door for honest dialogue amongst Black Men and Women that communicate critical information on film about the attitudes and mindset of young men. "Push"ing the Envelope with Something So Precious

Still Shots from the Movie "Precious"

Director Lee Daniels has made one of the most emotional films of the year, and In my opinion since Crash. As I watched the trailer in the theatres I could not help but to feel uncomfortable about what I was seeing on the screen. At the same time, I felt intrigued and delighted at the depth that was finally portrayed in a film about the “inner city” or the “ghetto,” that was not a shootem up or drug dealers' story.

The cast in the movie is fresh; it stars Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd, Mariah Carrey, Monique, Amina Robinson and Nella Gordon to name a few. In the trailer they did an amazing job portraying the raw emotion that we will see in this film.

I know this will not be an easy film to watch because of the sensitivity of the issues covered, but I am so ready to see the movie because I know it is not a story of defeat; it’s a story of hope. Precious will be in theatres Nov 6, 2009. Watch the Trailer Below

What is Good Hair to You? Join the debate

Good Hair hits Theatres Oct 9th in select cities

I saw the preview in the movies for this last month; I'm kind of on the fence about seeing it though. I laughed when I watched the trailer because Chris Rock is funny; I just don't know if the release of this info is going to stop me from using relaxer. It's like telling a drug addict to stop using drugs because it kills you; they already know the consequences.

My Hair Perm Free before I cut it

I only perm my hair 4 times a year to remove the frizziness because I actually do have good hair, but not even a Dominican blow out can stop frizz like a perm can. When I use to wear my hair natural without a relaxer it was so dry and brittle, it broke off, even after using countless moisturizing products that just didn’t work for me. Personally, I just want frizz free and moisturized hair whether it's natural or straight and relaxer helps me accomplish this.

My hair after cut & perm since Feb 09

Are you going to go see this movie? What are your personal thoughts or experiences on perm vs. going natural? Do you think relaxer is a necessary evil? I would love to hear what you think.

They Got a B+ All By Their-self

This weekend I went to see Tyler Perry’s newest theatre presentation, I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Staring Oscar Nominated actress Taraji Henson, Mary J Blige, Adam Rodriguez (CSI), Brian White, Gladys Knight, Marvin Wynans and Tyler Perry as Madea. I’ve been a fan of Tyler’s productions since his stage play days and once again he delivered a feel good movie with controversy, adversity, comedy and spirituality.

Though there were certain parts of the movie that was far fetch such as the over selfish character Taraji played who let a complete stranger move into her basement that she later-quickly married and her mother who was found dead on a bus with out any identification on her way to work, the movie was entertaining.

I was slightly distracted by the obvious less than realistic set partially because I pay attention to scenery details. I also had foresight that most of the production was filmed at Tyler Perry studios. For example Taraji’s brownstone like home was right across the street from mini-mega church and her job was in walking distance of her house. There were always a lot of people in the background scenes in this close knit very colorful community, that at times seemed a bit overstaged. Nerveless the message still came across, I laughed, I praised God and was impressed with most of the makeup, hair and wardrobe styling. I'll admit, they made me want to go get some lashes- and I don't do lashes.

The makeup was good on Taraji and Mary, but for some reason Gladys Knights lip color was the wrong shade and rather sticky in a few scenes. Taraji played a struggling night club singer but her wardrobe and hair reflected that of a more established artist, she was fly to say the least.
Mary J Blige’s character who was also a bartender and singer in the same nightclub was adorned in some beautiful colorful, fun shaped dresses. Her hair was darker and more mature than we are use to Mary rocking, but she still had that "round the way girl" flavor that we love Mary for.

After the climax of the movie things moved along very fast- a little to fast in some areas and slower in areas not needed. You will definitely leave with a smile on your face and anticipating to see what Perry will bring in his next film, Precious, that has a more serious tone. You can say what you want about TP but he has a winning formula that is working very well for him. He always feature local talent from Atlanta, introduces fresh faces and stars highly respectable African American entertainers that you are happy to see on the big screen. I give this movie B+.
