To Do Or Not To Do: Hair

Last Night Michelle Williams attended the after party for Beyonce new fragance launch Heat in NYC.
Are We Feeling Michelle Williams New Hair Do? I think I like her better in soft sultry looks. Edgy is not the way to go for Michelle-I'm just not buying it.

Beyonce is byfar the hardest working lady in show biz, she is trully unstoppable. She is officially the Queen of Multiple Streams of Income. Of Course Beyonce was looking smoking hot in all red. Love the little print on the bottom of those shoes.

Talk about collaboration, starting next month the new Dell Mini, Inspiron, or Studio laptop can have custom lids with familiar colors from there nail polish line like "Rosy Pearl, I'm Not Really a Waitress, and "Kyoto Pearl". The cost of this PC manicure will set you back a mere $85 but you wont have to worry about this paint chipping off. Take that Mac Oww!

Are So In Style Barbie's on your Christmas List?

So In Style Barbie Collection

Meet Grace, Trichelle, Kara and there little sisters Janessa, Courtney, and Kiana the newest members of the premanent all black So In Style Barbie Collection (S.I.S). Oh how I wish these dolls were around when I was growing up. I remeber having a really dark Barbie and a light brown one growing up; the rest were all white dolls. Not to mention the black dolls would always sell out the fastest, so my mom would have to get them way before the holidays set in.

These new So In Style Barbie’s come in 3 skin tones: dark chocolate, milk chocolate and caramel. Oh I love how they compare us to sweets. The story lines of the dolls reflect the personality, style, hair texture, make up, body and facial features more rellevant to the african american community. In my opinion some of the modifications are questionable but Mattel has come along way and I am happy about that.

The thing I like the most about this collection is the dolls were made to inspire mentoring in our communities, by pairing the big dolls each with a little sister. The story lines further explain the encouraging relationships the dolls have with each other. No word yet of a Black Male doll so how long these dolls will be single. It sure took Barbie long enough to come out with this line, I guess with all of the other doll competition these days they decided to step there hame up. Never less, It’s never to late to uplift our young girls and that's what these dolls were created to do. Please keep these dolls in mind  for upcoming birthdays and Holidays they will make great gifts. You can click here to find out more about the collection

My Nappy Hair Trailer vs. Good Hair Trailer

Here is the Trailer from the "My Nappy Roots" the documentary by film maker Regina Kimbell, who is filling suit against Chris Rock alleging that his "Good Hair" movie infringes on the copyright for her award-winning documentary. Kimball says that she showed “My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage,” to Rock two years ago. The lawsuit claims that there are major similarities between the two films, including the inspiration (their daughters) and the interviews with medical pros, celebs and comedians. Both filmmakers also visit hair relaxer manufacturing plants and touch on India’s involvement in providing hair for weaves. I will admit the trailers for both films are very similar, it's just Chris is better financed and has a more comedic feel. Check out “My Nappy Roots” below then check out the “Good Hair” one after.

I Won't Try Everything Once

Style Black collection by Mac

Most people have a love hate relationship with Mac Cosmetics, I’m one of the lovers but I have a confession; I hate one of there new products. I love Mac, especially the dazzle glass, not to mention they have the largest selection of eye shadow colors in my opinion.

The black lipstick from Mac's new collection "Style Black" is where I'm drawing the line. Rihanna has been spotted wearing dark lips lately; although I like the dark berry color she wore over the weekend, the black, not so much. It reminds me of the Goth crew back in high school that wore baggy jeans, Marilyn Manson tees and platform boots. I think I will stick to my shiny or shimmery lip colors this season or maybe even the dark berry-ish lip might work for me. You already know how I feel about dark nail polish, unless it's done with minx I'm not trying it. So what do you think about black lipstick? Will you participate in this trend? You Better Work it Naomi

Naomi Campbell killed the catwalk at London’s Fashion Week. You got to give credit where credit is due. Note to self: "I have 10 years to look like this at 38." I guess I need to up my Hip Hop Abs workout to 3x a day. Simply Fabulous!

What is Good Hair to You? Join the debate

Good Hair hits Theatres Oct 9th in select cities

I saw the preview in the movies for this last month; I'm kind of on the fence about seeing it though. I laughed when I watched the trailer because Chris Rock is funny; I just don't know if the release of this info is going to stop me from using relaxer. It's like telling a drug addict to stop using drugs because it kills you; they already know the consequences.

My Hair Perm Free before I cut it

I only perm my hair 4 times a year to remove the frizziness because I actually do have good hair, but not even a Dominican blow out can stop frizz like a perm can. When I use to wear my hair natural without a relaxer it was so dry and brittle, it broke off, even after using countless moisturizing products that just didn’t work for me. Personally, I just want frizz free and moisturized hair whether it's natural or straight and relaxer helps me accomplish this.

My hair after cut & perm since Feb 09

Are you going to go see this movie? What are your personal thoughts or experiences on perm vs. going natural? Do you think relaxer is a necessary evil? I would love to hear what you think.

Do You Need Beauty Alerts?

Beauty Alert Stickers

I remember seeing a show on Tyra a while back when she was talking about expiration dates and the cleanliness of the beauty products we use. Sure I paid attention to all of the gross things she was talking about and I did do something about it. I cleaned out my makeup bag and threw out some obvious old products, but that was back then and here we go again.

A company called Beauty Alerts came up with a product for chicks like me. Beauty Alert! stickers eliminate the need to remember, because the Home Use Life Span is printed right on the label. You only need to write in the date you broke the seal on the product and apply it directly onto the cosmetics container. Sticker packages contain 24 specially-designed stickers, 6 stickers for each of 4 categories of product life for 8.50 a pack. Or if you are a budget fashionista like me, you can make your own labels inspired by beauty alert stickers today. If you’re lazy and you know you will never get around to it and think this is a great idea, it might be worth trying out. For more info visit http://www.beautyalert.biz

Polished vs. Faux Polish

Although I wore acrylic tips religiously during my high school days, it was never really my thing. The chemicals in the acrylic would dry the skin on my hands and would cause a lot of pain on my thumbs where my skin would peel back. The things we do for beauty and for men “sigh.”

Under “coercion” of my man, a few times last year I decided to try acrylic over my natural nails, with a promise from him of course, to maintain the up keep. No problem at first, but since my nail bed is a little curved the acrylic would always lift around the tip area and I would have all type of debris in between my nail and the acrylic. Boy did that drive me crazy. Eventually, I got frustrated and stopped getting them done even though I liked the look of my French manicured tips.

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always enjoyed a good manicure. I recall times when my mom would let me get a manicure when she would go, and I wouldn’t touch anything for hours but somehow I would always mess my nails up. Get this, I still do (giggles). Sometimes my grandmother would give me an at home manicure and polish in exchange for me polishing her toes; those were the good old days.

As of late, one of my pet peeves with manicures is that, I really don’t like bold nail colors on my hands. But I feel slighted if I opp for no color at the salon and still have to pay regular price. Often times I pick some sort of shear tone because after a few days it always starts to chip off anyway. Personally I would rather no pilish because I hate to see women with chipped nail polish on. After spending $10- $15 I expect longer wear out of my polish but to no avail, even with the best of top coats polish always wears off my hands really fast.

Now there’s a innovative nail remedy called Minx on the scene, an expensive one might I add. Minx nails are metallic or print nail stickers that are professionally applied to give your nails some serious wow factor. I love all of the design options like there metallic/mirror shades, animal prints, plaids, and other graphic prints that all come in a chip resistant shiny finish.

After doing some research, aside from the visual appeal, I discovered the true benefits of this pricey Minx manicure. Firstly, it's Chip free for up to 10 days (OMG enough for me), secondly there is zero drying time which for someone like me who always have a nail ding that is perfect, and lastly the procedure incorporates a full manicure as you would receive normally. Now for the bad news I called around to get some pricing and here is what I found: $45 for a manicure and $65 for a pedicure. Maybe for some of you that’s a drop in the bucket but for a gal like me that’s a tank of gas, some pull ups for my son, a few groceries and maybe a top from Forever 21.

So although I’m tempted, I’m on the fence at the same time. I’ll keep you posted if I decide to try them out. Here a few pictures of the very Popular Minx nail design that you will start to see more of and hear about.

If your in the Atlanta area I know they offer Minx at Shine Salon & Spa and The Glam Bar Salon both on Peters Street in the Castleberry Hill district and  Polished Beauty Lounge in Vinings. For more locations or info visit Minx Nails.
